LASIK Myths

LASIK surgery is a proven procedure for vision correction. If you’re looking for freedom from glasses or contacts, LASIK may be the answer!

Before booking your LASIK consultation, check out these LASIK myths. Don’t believe the myths before you know the facts!

LASIK Myth #1: LASIK isn’t a safe procedure

LASIK Truth:

This is false information. You can’t argue with a 96% success rate with LASIK patients! Since becoming FDA approved in the 1990s, LASIK has become incredibly popular.

In fact, since it’s FDA approval, LASIK has become highly advanced. The procedure is now performed using only lasers. The use of blades during LASIK has been eliminated since it left too much open to human error.

Another reason LASIK is a safe procedure? It has candidacy requirements, meaning only LASIK candidates can get LASIK.

LASIK Myth #2: LASIK technology is like the latest iPhone -you should wait for the next version

LASIK Truth:
You can wait for the “next version” but why would you want to? Where it stands right now, LASIK is a modern and state-of-the-art procedure.

With custom LASIK, patients now have a map of their cornea scanned and created. This gets rid of any chances of human error.

This map is then used during the procedure while correcting your vision. With the advances made, LASIK technology has made it possible for even more people to get LASIK.

Before custom LASIK, patients with strong prescriptions couldn’t get LASIK. Now, many patients who were once told they couldn’t get LASIK now have clearer vision.

LASIK Myth #3: It all depends on how many surgeries the LASIK surgeon has done

LASIK Truth:
Experience is important when you’re looking for a LASIK surgeon, but it’s just one factor. Of course, you want an experienced LASIK surgeon but take their reviews into account!

You can get a good feel for what a surgeon is like by talking to friends or family who has had them. You can also check out Yelp or Healthgrades to see what other patients say about them.

Don’t rely only on the internet, either. Check out the practice where the surgeon practices as well. Are the staff friendly? Do you feel comfortable? Your eyes are important: go with your gut if something doesn’t feel right!

LASIK Myth #4: You can get LASIK for $299 per eye

LASIK Truth:
Sorry but this one is far from true! Also, think about it…do you really want to get LASIK for $299 per eye? Your eyes are precious.

We only get one set, so you should keep them safe. Usually, when you see deals like $299 per eye, there are very strict qualifications to get that price.

For most people, you’ll never qualify for the “advertised” price. You either need to have almost no refractive errors or be prepared to pay for all follow-up visits out of pocket. If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

If you’re concerned about the cost of LASIK, there are options! You can get financing from the practice who is performing LASIK or consider Care Credit. There are ways that you can pay for LASIK in affordable monthly payments and stick to your budget!
